Neurodiversity and Christian ministry? - with Lindy Hadges and Kirk Patston

More people are being diagnosed as neurodiverse. Plus there is a sense that theological colleges attract a higher percentage of neurodiverse than the general community.

Can one thrive in theological college and then flounder in ministry?

Can one be godly, gifted, and hardworking—but not suited to high-trust relational ministry if one cannot perceive or respond well to emotional signals?

What expectations do congregations rightly have of their ministers?

What conflicts might arise? Are they resolvable?  What are the red flags?

What to do if one suspects a team member or team leader might be on the spectrum? What if it’s undiagnosed or unacknowledged?

Lindy Hadges is a Director of the ADHD Foundation and runs a private clinical practice focused on this area.

Kirk Patston lectures in Old Testament, preaching and pastoral ministry at Sydney Missionary and Bible College and has a PhD in disability theology.
